DIY Little Mermaid Card or Invitation
My daughter’s best friend is having a Little Mermaid themed birthday party and I wanted to make her a card. I don’t typically buy cards because I actually like to make my own. I’m always spontaneous about it. I stare at the things I have in my craft room, and just start creating. Here is how I ended up making a handmade DIY Little Mermaid card or invitation.
Materials:
- Cardstock
- Flower craft punches, 2 sizes
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Glue stick
- Hot glue
- Plastic pearl beads
I was really winging this one. I thought a clam shell would be the easiest to make. I grabbed a pale blue piece of cardstock, folded it in half, and started drawing. I messed up a few times, erased and started over. Once I was happy, I cut it out.
I had a couple small flower punches that reminded me of the colorful flowers in the “Under the Sea” part of the movie, so I punched several out in two sizes from paper scraps. I arranged them how I liked and used a glue stick to glue them on.
I also cut out a smaller clam (one side only) in blue, and glued it inside the card to add a little dimension. This is where we wrote our birthday message.
I stared at it for a while and thought it needed a pearl inside. It didn’t quite look right so I ended up gluing plastic pearl beads in the centers of the larger flowers on the outside of the card.
Here is the card. I thought it turned out pretty cute! It could also be used as a birthday party invitation.
