How to Make a Key Lime Garnish in the Shape of a Sun
Ah! There is nothing more relaxing to me than spending summer vacation on the beach. OK, well, maybe there is ONE thing more relaxing. That would be spending summer vacation on the beach with a margarita in hand. Lucky me; I had the privilege of spending four days and three nights at the gorgeous Villa del Palmar at The Islands of Loreto resort and spa. I can’t wait to tell you about it all including hiking, paddle boarding, the amazing food and staff, my incredible private suite, and my clam diving excursion. But first, I just wanted to share a little Sun Shaped Key Lime Garnish How to. My friend Sharon and I had a special tutorial by our bartender, Jorge, on the beach when he made us some tasty and refreshing cucumber margaritas with a chili lime rim.
You only need three things:
- Sharp Knife
- Key Lime
- Cutting Board
OK, well you also need a margarita of course! First, slice the end off of the key lime and discard.
Cut a thin slice saving the rest of the lime for later and follow the lines of the flesh and cut, stopping at the inside of the rind.
Invert the ring as shown.
Use the remaining part of the key lime, and maneuver the ring onto the edge of the lime forming a sun.
Lay the sun flat onto the cutting board and cut a slit into the rounded end.
If desired, groom the sun with your knife to shape the perfect sun.
Place it on the edge of a salted margarita glass using the slit on the body of the lime.
Isn’t it adorable? It was such a beautiful and thoughtful touch to help make our sun bathing THAT much more special. Jorge went over and above for us, especially taking the extra time to show us how to make this unique margarita garnish.
Now that was so simple yet so very cute! Love it.
I was surprised i had never seen that garnish before!!! It’s so fun! I can’t wait to try it out!
