DIY IKEA Hack: IKEA Recycle Bins to Industrial Storage

My new craze this year is industrial! I absolutely love it all – although I’ll admit the prices aren’t that impressive. I’m currently in the process of decorating my little boys room – with an industrial theme and locating suitably priced decor was difficult. Here is my IKEA Recycle Bins to Industrial Storage.

I had a few recycle bins lying around the house ( I have a lot of items just lying around my house as I’m a hoarder as they say ) and had the idea of creating the industrial metallic look and using them as storage!

Il talk you through the steps I used to create this look!

Lightly Sanded the recycle bin with sand paper to give the paint something to adhere on to.

Wipe clean with dry cloth.

Applied the primer : for this I used Canbrush grey primer spray paint . I applied two light coats with an hour drying tint in between each coat

I then applied silver metallic spray paint ( any brand will do) . This coat was spayed on a little heavier and then left to dry for an hour.

To give the tubs more of a dirty/ industrial look I then sprayed Rustoleum Old bronze spray paint on top of the silver lightly.

Once dried, I uses the metallic silver spray paint again and very lightly sprayed over the bronze to give the appearance of tiny silver specs.

STENCILS -( I purchased a set of 1 – 10 on eBay . I used the industrial font.) I stenciled using white and orange spray paint on the lids and side of tub and left to dry for an hour.

I then used authentico wax to seal it all (using a dry cloth to buff) – you could also use a clear poly for this step but I didn’t have it available!

And that’s it! The prefect storage for a little boys room 🙂 You could also add nail heads to the corners as fake rivers if you wanted to take this Upcycle to the next level!
