A Few Easy and Clever Kitchen Storage and Organization Ideas

“Our Kitchen Rules: 1) If you empty it fill it; 2) If you dirty it clean it; 3) If you open it close it; 4) If you spill it wipe it up; 5) If you cook it share it” – Unknown I thought this was funny, especially when coming up with these Clever Kitchen Storage and Organization Ideas.

Every year after I take down all of my Christmas decorations, I go on a cleaning and organizing rampage. I don’t know why, but after all the decorations are down, it seems like the house is bare and dirty. I thought I’d share a few of my clever kitchen storage and organization ideas today. Some are super simple and cost-effecting repurposing ideas as well.

Here we go.

Add a Hook

For some reason, my dog food scooper always breaks or gets lost in the food container. With the help of an old hook and some glue dots I added a little hook on the outside of the dog food container for easy access. This is also a little more sanitary than keeping it inside.

Upcycle a Thrift Store Find

In my pantry, I used an old CD rack to organize some loose items that always get lost when I decide to throw away the box with only a few items left. A CD rack is the perfect size for:

  • Popcorn
  • Protein and Granola Bars
  • Oatmeal Packets
  • School Lunch Snacks

These are abundant at thrift stores. I think I snagged this one from Goodwill.

Turn It Into a Display

Use clear glass containers to store snacks in a nice display on the counter or inside the pantry.

Glass jars and apothecary jars also make great holders for K Cups and Nespresso Pods.

Add a Hidden White Board

Also inside my pantry door, I added a cardboard whiteboard that I got as a white elephant gift this Christmas. This helps keep me organized throughout the week, but left hidden to keep the kitchen looking cleaner. I can also tack important papers for school up and hidden away.

Repurpose A Letter Caddy

For my pot lids I use a leather letter caddy to keep them out of the way and upright. You can also do this for small cutting boards.

Recycle Cardboard Boxes

I cut out some food boxes to use in my drawers to help keep my serving spoons and my daughter’s utensils organized. If desired, wrap them in contact paper for a more finished look.

Check Under the Sink

Here is a picture of under my kitchen sink before and after. It’s a mess with no organization whatsoever.

Oraganizing Under the sink

I took an old plastic crate from the garage and another plastic bin I had to help keep things in place. Small changes can make a big difference and there is no need to purchase anything new. Look around the house for unused containers.

I got this idea from A Prudent Life and used a clothespin for my plastic gloves. It is so handy.

Don’t forget About the Cleaning Equipment

Lastly… my husband is SO happy about this one…I spent $15 and bought these organizers to store my cleaning equipment in the garage. Here is the before and after. When I look at the BEFORE it’s so embarrassing! I don’t know what took me so long to do this.

  1. This really is such a simple but often overlooked thing–the hanging storage of the mops, etc–and I will be implementing this soon. I am new to your blog and now following you across all of your social media. Thanks for the great ideas on just my first visit!
