DIY Bachelorette Party Favor Bags

How to Stencil DIY Bachelorette Party Favor Bags with Personalized Names

OK, so I didn’t technically go to a Bachelorette party, rather a fun annual girls weekend that my four best friends and I try to do once a year (it doesn’t always work out with over a dozen kids among us!).  The year that I made these was special because it’s the first year in five years that all five of us will be going on a weekend getaway.  I wanted to do something special so I decided to make personalized stenciled swag bags, which would also make a great DIY Bachelorette party favor bags.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Jute tote bags from BurlapFabric.com
  • Paper plate
  • Craft paint
  • Spouncer
  • Letter stencils
  • Clean towels

If there was a Queen of natural fiber stenciling, I think I’d be in the running! Ha! I have done so many stenciling projects because it’s both fun and simple to do.  I was able to stencil these five bags in no time. Here is one of the bags I got from BurlapFabric.com. They are great because they are sturdy and lined inside. The 9 X 11 X 4 size was perfect for these party favor bags.

Jute Party Bags

First I chose a paint color for each of my best girlfriends. Naturally, I chose their favorites. Several different colors look vibrant and pretty against a natural fiber like these jute tote bags.

Stenciling Tips (2)

I stenciled our names on each bag in each of my friend’s favorite colors. Since I wanted our names to go up and down from the top right of each bag, it helped to start stenciling with the last letter first.

Stenciled Burlap DIY

Stenciling Tips:

  • Use a spouncer brush to help prevent bleeding.
  • Apply in a straight up and down motion.
  • Remove the excess paint before stenciling. Less is best.
  • Wash your stencils in between each application so that your stencils will stay clean and last a long time.
  • Less in more. In the picture below you will see that I used very little paint for each name.

Stenciling Tips (1)

Here’s how they turned out! The girls are going to love them.

Yes! I used two different kinds, both worked well, 1) Martha Stewart and 2) DecoArt. I hope you try it out!

I love this idea! The jute bags I bought are 12 x 12 x 8. I am going to get the industrial font but don’t know whether to get the 3′ because one bridesmaid’s name is Britany. I’m not sure the 3 inch would fit vertically on the bag. What is the width of the letters? What size stencil letter do you think would work?

Hi Susan! The width of the letters vary depending on the letter. I think you might be ok with the 3″ because the ones I made were only 12″. If you want to be safe, maybe get the 2″. They will still be very cute with a smaller font. Let me know how it turns out!

This is such a great idea. I now what to know what you put in them, but I can’t seem to get around the subscription bar to get access to the menu. I’ve subscribed, but then it stays put asking if we want a similar bar (I’m guessing for our sites). Please Help! I’d love to see the rest of the project and some of your other projects. P.S. I’m on my mobile. It may be different on the computer.
