DIY Steampunk Top Hat and Goggles
My husband and I keep changing our minds on what we were going to be on Halloween this year. Since we are actually attending a costume party, my husband insisted we should dress as a couple. At first we were going to be Ken and Barbie in the cardboard box but thought it’d be too uncomfortable, then we were going to be Mr. and Mrs. Wulf dressed up in a suit and dress but with wolf heads on. Finally, we decided on dressing in the Steampunk era. We thought it’d be fun and more importantly comfortable. So, I made myself some accessories. Here is my DIY Steampunk Top Hat and Goggles tutorial.
I made this with some repurposed items. Most I had around the house but I did buy a couple things. Here is what I ended up using, of course there are alternatives.
Materials:
- Top Hat
- Lace Ribbon
- Old Fake Leather Belt
- Two Baby Jar Lids
- Blind Spot Mirrors
- Gold Sharpie
- Industrial Strength Glue (E6000)
- Steampunk Collection Embelllishments
- Hot Glue and Glue Gun
- Scissors
This is a top hat I found at Walmart for $4.99. You can also make the top hat out of cardboard as well.
I wrapped the hat in lace for a feminine touch.
Next, I found an old belt in my closet and cut it up to make the straps of the goggles. You can also look for fake leather pants or skirts at thrift stores to cut up as well. I hot glued it around the lace.
Next, I colored the sides of the blind spot mirror and the baby jar lids with a gold sharpie.
I glued them together with E6000 glue.
Lastly, I glued them onto the hat as well as added a couple steampunk inspired metal embellishments.
Here are a couple after photos. This Steampunk Top hat and Goggles cost me less than $15.00!
Oh! And my daughter just HAD to model my hat for you too!
I absolutely love this idea! I was looking for an idea for the goggles!!
Oh great! So glad you like it, Donna!
