For my friends and me, all busy moms, a girl’s lunch is a time to relax and catch up on the latest news while enjoying good food and great company. I love making a small gathering like this one extra special by taking just a little effort to celebrate our friendship.  As the hostess I want it to not only be tasty but also to be beautiful and comfortable. Here my tips for hosting a get together, including three recipes for sweet and savory finger foods. These tips are especially helpful for busy moms who just need a little girl time.

Tip #1: Tell your guests to leave the kids at home.

This can be a challenge but it is doable. As much as we love our children, every mom needs uninterrupted girl time with their friends. Schedule a date that works best for everyone. Set a time frame so that sitters can be arranged.

Tip #2: Use table linens.

A table cloth adds warmth and elegance to a bare table. Use a neutral color because black or white can seem too formal. To save time, you can iron it directly on the table top.

Tip #3: Display fresh flowers.

Arranging an elaborate bouquet is not necessary. A couple roses clipped from your garden and placed in a candle holder as a bud vase will do the trick. Place two or three on the table. Consider one for each place setting with a name card. On the back of the card, share a fun memory or short note to your guest.

Tip #4: Prepare the food together.

As busy working moms, we are so used to multitasking. Why not prepare lunch together? Making food together is a great time for bonding. As an added bonus you can taste test to make sure everything tastes good!

Tip #5: Serve both sweet and savory finger food.

Here are a few of my favorite flavor combinations. These finger foods can be arranged in no time and offer a variety of flavors for different palettes.

Tip #6: Relax.

The best part and ultimate goal is to enjoy your time. Once the table is set and the food is served, step out of the hostess mindset. Your friends can refill their own drinks and help you clean up afterwards. You need to enjoy this time too. After all, you ARE best friends. Helping one another out is a prerequisite.
