DIY Minnie Mouse and Toy Story Birthday Party Ideas for a Twin Party
One of my best friends has twins, one boy and one girl. For their third birthday party this year she did a Toy Story theme and incorporated Minnie Mouse (her daughter’s favorite). She was kind enough to share her pictures and tell me how she made some of the decorations out of Styrofoam, cardboard, and paper. I shared some affiliate links for recommended products as well. And just a little tip, you can check out some party decoration rental sites, to really spritz things up a little bit. And best of all, you don’t have to worry about storing it all or selling it on!
DIY Cardboard Party Decorations
Maily made these giant letter blocks by wrapping square boxes in wood grained wrapping paper. She painted cardboard frames and MDF letters to match and glued them to the front of each box.
She also cut out and painted a giant Woody and Minnie Mouse head out of cardboard.
Paper and Paper Mache Party Decorations
Maily lined her backdrops with colored paper and newspaper. She made paper medallions for the dessert table backdrop. She also cut out white clouds to place on blue paper and made paper mache parachutes with plastic toy green army men parachuting down. I have a tutorial for how to make paper mache bowls that you can use to make the parachutes. Simply paint them black.
To make the paper mache Mr. Potato Head, she bought a large laytex balloon at Party City for $2.00 and paper mached it. She also paper mached a second balloon halfway up and put them together with several layers. She used painted Styrofoam and used stiff felt for the eyes, nose, mouth, and hat and then made a yarn mustache.
Toys as Decorations
For any theme party, it’s always a great budget friendly idea to use the kid’s existing toys in your party decorating. Maily collected and used Hamm, Green Army Men, Slinky, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, Slinky, and Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head toys to help add to the decorations. She cleverly used chocolate coins to place around Hamm the piggy bank.
To make the large Minnie head she connected three Styrofoam balls with skewers, painted it black and attached a Minnie bow that she made.
Toy Story Alien Pops and Sweet Treats
There were a lot of tasty treats served at the party including these adorable green Alien Marshmallow Pops. To make these, place a large marshmallow on lollipop stick. Dip it is melted green candy melts and add candy eyes. Allow them to dry to harden.
Buzz Lightyear and Minnie Mouse Backpacks
The hostess with the mostess went above and beyond and handmade these adorable backpacks to give out as party favors!! Can you believe she made these? She said she would share her tutorial and pattern with me, so I’ll have that up as soon as I can.
I hope you enjoyed her party as much as I did. Here are some more fun party theme ideas for kids:

What size boxes were used, and where did the cardboard frames come from, I can’t find them?
Hi Constance! The boxes are 14X14X14 from Amazon. Here is my affiliate link: http://amzn.to/2yaUF2u The frames were actually left over insulation foam that she cut into strips an wrapped with brown packing tape. She mentioned you can get pre-cut strips at a hardware store.
thnx for sharing nice info for party decoration
