How to Make Sports Hair Bows

DIY Accessories: How to Make Sports Hair Bows for less than $2.00 Each

Although this craft is very simple, I just HAD to share it because I made these bows very cheaply.

Let’s face it, soccer, softball, cheerleading, you name it… sports are expensive. Every little thing adds up.  You have registration fees, team fees, uniforms, parties, shoes, and equipment. Don’t forget team parties and team mom and coaches gifts. Forget about it if you have multiple kids in different sports…yikes!

The point is that if there is any way I can save money, even if it’s a couple dollars, it’s exciting to me.  With these hair bows, you typically find them in stores for about $5.00 apiece. BUT thanks to the Amazon Gods, I figured out how to make sports hair bows for less than $2.00 each. Here’s how.

Time: 15 Minutes or less

Materials: Includes Amazon Affiliate Links

  • Hair Bows with Ties
  • Ribbon of choice
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue and Glue Gun

Instructions and Tips:

I found these 8” hair bows with hair ties on Amazon Prime for $12.99 for a dozen.

This was a sales price. As a heads up, the last time I checked they were $15.99 (still a good deal at $1.33 each). Since I have Prime, I didn’t have to pay for shipping, so they were only $1.08 each!  As an added bonus they come in several different colors (20 I think).

I bought two different colors of ribbon at Michael’s and of course I used my 40% off coupon. I ended up spending about $7.00 in ribbon. I cut each one in about 15” strips and then hot glued them in a circle. Glue the center of the circle down to form a figure eight.

Glue each “eight” on top of one another and then on top of the bow.  Cut another short piece to wrap and glue around the center to create a finished look.

There you have it! You can play around with the colors and patterns, depending on your team and sport. Our soccer team colors this year are fuchsia and navy.
