How to Make a Large Bow with Ribbon
How to Make a Large Bow with Ribbon for Gift Wrapping Large Presents
Just face it… not every gift you give someone fits perfectly into a box that can be easily wrapped. Sometimes you have to get creative and come up with an alternative to cardboard boxes and wrapping paper. I recently purchased a gift for my brother and had to do just that… come up with a creative alternative. I decided to wrap his small gifts and put them inside his large gift and simply make a bow to go on top. With that said, here is my tutorial on how to make a large bow with ribbon.
Note these measurements are for a bow approximately one foot in diameter.
Materials:
- Ribbon
- Scissors
- Stapler
- Yard stick or measuring tape
Instructions:
For this bow, you need to cut seven strips as follows:
- Two 24” strips
- Two 22” strips
- Two 18” strips
- One 10” strip
One strip at a time, fold down one end over meeting in the center as shown.
Fold up the other end as shown.
Staple the center, securing it together.
Repeat this for the other five longest pieces. For the 10” strip, simply fold it over to make a hoop and staple it.
Start layering each piece one by one, with the largest pieces on the bottom.
Using a stapler, staple all the layers together to secure the entire bow.
Here is an AFTER photo.
You can play around with the dimensions, depending on the size of the bow you need. As I mentioned above, these measurements ill make a bow approximately 11-12 inches in diameter. Try making these with different materials. I made a bow like this out of recycled book pages in the past for smaller gifts.
