Where do Find Old Crates?

Finding wine crates is easier than you might think. Here are a few places where you can get wine crates:

Local Wine Shops or Liquor Stores

Many wine shops or liquor stores have wooden wine crates that they may be willing to give away or sell. It’s worth asking the staff if they have any available, especially if they’ve recently received shipments of wine.

Wine Distributors or Wineries

If you live near a winery, vineyard, or wine distributor, they may have wine crates that they no longer need. Some wineries even offer crates for sale as part of their promotional merchandise. You could also contact distributors that import wine in bulk.

Online Marketplaces

  • eBay: You can find both new and used wine crates in a variety of styles.
  • Craigslist: Look for free or inexpensive wine crates in your local classifieds under “free stuff” or “furniture.”
  • Facebook Marketplace: Many people sell or give away wine crates, often in the “free” or “for sale” sections.

Antique Stores or Thrift Shops

Some antique shops or secondhand stores carry old wine crates, often repurposed for other uses, like furniture or decor. They might have vintage crates available for purchase.

Estate Sales or Garage Sales

People often sell old wine crates at estate or garage sales, and you may be able to find some for a very reasonable price. Keep an eye on local listings or neighborhood events.

Online Retailers

Websites like Amazon, Etsy, or Wayfair often sell wine crates (either new or repurposed). Etsy, in particular, is a good place for finding rustic, vintage, or custom-made wine crates.

Recycling Centers

Some local recycling centers may have crates available that they’ve received from businesses. It’s worth checking with your local center to see if they have any wine crates available for repurposing.

Farmers’ Markets or Craft Fairs

Some local artisans and sellers at farmers’ markets or craft fairs might repurpose old wine crates and sell them. It’s a good opportunity to pick up a unique, hand-crafted crate.

Restaurants or Bars

Restaurants and bars that serve wine may have crates left over from deliveries. You can ask them if they’re willing to part with some, especially if they’re being discarded.

Building or Home Improvement Stores

Occasionally, stores like Home Depot or Lowe’s will carry crates or similar wooden boxes that can be used for similar purposes, though they may not be specifically wine crates.

Remember to check the condition of the crates if you’re purchasing second-hand, as they can sometimes be a little worn.

  1. The wine crate art studio is great! As far as what to do with the ones you have, it really depends on how detailed you want to get. The dog bed and seat are complex and intricate. The jewelry box is a little bit less complex.

I am however, glad you did figure out what to do with them. What was the idea? I’m looking forward to the post.
