Harley Quinn DIY Cake Topper
My friend from Sweet Tooth Cravings will occasionally ask me to make a cupcake topper or DIY cake topper. I made her a first birthday cake topper before and I even made little elf shoes for snowball cupcakes she made last Christmas. This time, she asked me to make a Harley Quinn themed cake topper. I have to admit, I had NO idea what to do, but I was up for the challenge.
The first thing I did was google Harley Quinn, because I was only familiar with the recent Suicide Squads movie version of her. I found some great comic book photos on a Google search and used one from Cartoon Bucket.
With my brother’s help, I decided on making the cake topper look like a set of fanned out playing cards. I designed the cards and printed them on white cardstock. Here is what I used.
Materials:
- White Cardstock
- Red Cardstock
- Glue Stick
- Scissors
- Hot Glue and Glue Gun
- Toothpicks
The person that requested the cake asked for it to say “Happy Birthday, Puddin”” on it, so for two of the cards I made them look like the back of a red playing card with a speech bubble (like in the comics). After designing and printing them, I cut out each card.
I used glue to fan out the cards, then glued the entire hand onto red cardstock paper. I then cut out around the edges so that the back would look finished. I used a little hot glue to glue in the two toothpicks.
Here’s how it turned out!
