How I Saved Hundreds of Dollars on Wall Mirrors
The six mirrors I’m about to show you cost me about $100, plus a few dollars for supplies. Together they are worth much much more. I have had all six for a minimum of three years and they have lasted room changes and even a move to a new home. They were all what I call trash to treasure. Here is how I saved hundreds of dollars on wall mirrors for my home décor. Let me break it down for you.
Mirror #1: Upcycled Serving Tray
- Where did I get it? Goodwill
- How much is it worth? $25.00
- What did I pay for it? $4.99
- Cost to Refurbish: $8.00
- Total Savings: $12.00
This was an ugly brown mirror that I found at Goodwill. I loved the shape and immediately thought it’d make a great serving tray. I spray painted it and added some hardware for handles. I use it every day, as it sits on my kitchen countertop.
Mirror #2: Silver Modern Mirror
- Where did I get it? Target
- How much is it worth? $24.99
- What did I pay for it? $8.00
- Cost to Refurbish: $4.00
- Total Savings: $13.00
Not a ton of savings, but I loved the mirror. It is now in my laundry room. It was a Target mirror that I found at Goodwill. It was bright blue. I spray painted it silver to match my décor.
Mirror #3: Gold Mirror
- Where did I get it? Home Goods Clearance Section
- How much is it worth? $80.00
- What did I pay for it? $12.00
- Cost to Refurbish: $0.00
- Total Savings: $68.00
This mirror and the next mirror were great deals. I really scored with them because they needed a little repair. I happen to have all the supplies to fix both mirrors as well. As long as the mirror was intact, I had no problem fixing the frames. Check out my posts to see step by step how I repaired them. Today, it is hanging in my bedroom.
Mirror #4: Silver Two-Toned Mirror
- Where did I get it? Home Goods Clearance Section
- How much is it worth? $120.00
- What did I pay for it? $8.00
- Cost to Refurbish: $.0.00
- Total Savings: $112.00
As I mentioned this was a total score because I had everything I needed to fix this mirror so it didn’t cost me anything. I made it two toned with silver and gray. Today, it sits on my dining room buffet.
Mirror #5: Vintage Metal Bird Mirror
- Where did I get it? Long Beach Antique Swap Meet
- How much is it worth? $150.00
- What did I pay for it? $70.00
- Total Savings: $80.00
This mirror didn’t need any repair or upcycling, rather I needed to bargain to get the price I wanted. I was at the LB swap meet and fell in love. Apparently, a host of an HGTV show saw it and loved it but passed on it (at least that’s what the seller told me). She had a price tag of $150.00 I went REALLY low with $70.00. After all, it was the end of the day. She told me no. I replied that my husband wouldn’t be happy if I paid any more and started walking away. I told her to have a great rest of her day. She stopped me and said fine. I could have it for $70. Moral of the story? Haggle at the end of the day so they don’t have to pack it up and bring it home and always be pleasant and nice!
Mirror #6: Black Mirror
- Where did I get it? Gift
- How much is it worth? $100’s
- What did I pay for it? $0.00
- Total Savings: $100’s
So this frame I didn’t actually buy. It was a gift from over 15 years ago. At that time my home décor taste was different. Instead of selling it, I ended up painting it a simple black. Now, it sits on my mantel in my living room.
I remember a lot of these! Wow I do the same thing to save money. I will never pay those high prices for mirrors!
I love that you remember those! Great minds think alike!!
It is astonish how much mirrors cost! I’ve saved every mirror I’ve come across – you did some lovely things with yours! And I also wanted to mention that the Wednesday “To Grandma’s House We Go” link party just started over at grandmashousediy.com and I thought you might be interested in joining it, thanks!
Thank you so much! I will check it out!
I am right there with ya about shopping thrift stores and I hardly ever pay full price for anything decor related! I love how you upcycled your treasures. They turned out fantastic. If you have time please share this (if you have time) with me and my 4 co-hosts at our Dishing It & Digging It Link Party that just went live. I think our followers would love it!
