Updates to Our Home

Mia's Room After

For the past several weeks we have been making recent updates to our home. I recently shared my living room makeover, my dining room makeover, our black front door, and our cement floors. BUT, that’s all downstairs; today, I’m excited to share the progress we have made on the stairs and upstairs as well. If you have been following along on Instagram you’ve already seen some sneak peeks on! Get ready, it’s a bit messy, and it may be another week before I share the “finale”.

My daughter’s room was the first to be organized after the floors and moldings were done.  This is during the process.

These were our stairs BEFORE. The carpet is super dirty, discolored, and worn. The railings were an outdated white and brown.

Stairs Before

We wanted to be financially responsible, so instead of tearing down and installing new railings, we kept our existing railings and painted them black.  They were primed first.

Stair-Remodel

We decided on black, to match our fireplace mantel in the family room.

Stair-Makeover

We chose hardwood flooring in pewter ash.  Here is a photo during the process.

We are also in the process of painting all the doors and doing the hardwood and molding for the entire upstairs. This is our master bedroom.

About four weeks ago, my husband and I were visiting my parents and we sat down with their neighbors who have solar panels.  They were SO passionate about their decision to install. They told us it was a “no-brainer”. With all the upgrades we are doing now, solar panel installation was something else we were seriously considering because they would save us money and the planet since they are environmentally friendly. Since then, we have been emailing them back and forth about our questions, and then recently I have been doing my own research.

I found that Sungevity is a fantastic option for solar panels. I realized that the sleek, custom design of the Sungevity solar systems would fit well, especially with our recent upgrades and our recent exterior painting that we did. Also, with Sungevity, you can save money on your electricity bill and lower your dependence on scarce, expensive fossil fuels.
