DIY Party Ideas

Make a Top Hat Headband Out of a Cup

Today I’m sharing how to make this really simple (and fun) top hat headband.  You can use these for birthday parties, costumes, or just for fun!  They are really simple to make and you only need a few supplies.

Time: 20 Minutes

Materials:

  • Paper Cup
  • Cardstock
  • Pencil
  • Hot Glue and Glue Gun
  • Scissors
  • Tulle or Ribbon
  • Felt Bow or Flowers
  • Headband
  • Circle template (cup or bowl)

Watch it on YouTube:

Instructions:

I bought these cups at Michael’s. They are dessert cups, but paper party drinking cups work nicely too. Trace the top of the bottom of the cup which will be the top of the hat. Next, trace a circle for the bottom of the hat. I used a wide mouth glass. You can use a small bowl too. Cut that out.  Hot glue the top and bottom of the circles onto the hat.  Wrap the hat in tulle or ribbon. Decorate it with a felt bow or craft flowers. Finally, hot glue the hat to the headband.

You can make them for any themed party. Make little Mad Hatter hats for an Alice in Wonderland party or costume.  Simply change the colors and patterns to fit your theme. They are cute for costumes at Halloween time.  You can also make several and use them as party favors for a birthday party.

I hope you like it! Here are my kiddos wearing them, but they fit adults too!

Here’s another one I made in the past.
