Kid Stuff Makeovers Trash To Treasure

Kid’s Picnic Table Makeover

DIY Furniture Makeover: Kid’s Picnic Table Makeover

I was literally about to throw this table away, and then a split second later I thought, “What the hell am I thinking? Is this trash to treasure girl nuts?” We all make mistakes. 😉 Anyway, I took a few hours and brought new life to it, so today I thought I’d share this super simple kid’s picnic table makeover of mine.

This was the table before. It had experience all the elements of the weather over the years. There used to be an umbrella but it faded and broke. I cleaned it as much as possible. Although it doesn’t look like it, I was pretty good about keeping the spiders and spider webs away. I also tightened all the screws.

I started painting it with primer first, in hopes it’ll last a little bit longer. Be sure to check out my article for when and how to use primer for DIY painting projects and furniture makeovers.

For the benches, I didn’t bother painting the top because I decided on upholstering the tops instead of making cushions.

I removed the padding from the old cushions and reused it. I also went to a fabric store that was going out of business and bout this $80 bolt of fabric for $11. I figured I’d use it somehow sometime! It’s actually very similar to the fabric I used for a garage sale bench I made over a while ago. I cut and stapled it directly onto the bottom of the bench.

I liked the white primer so I kept the table white. It seems cleaner that way, and this time it will be staying out of the sun and under a covered patio.
